Decision on Grade 5 Scholarship Exam Amid Alleged Paper Leak Pending Investigation Outcomes

Date:

September 20, Colombo (LNW):The Examinations Department will make a decision on the 2024 Grade 5 Scholarship Examination based on the findings of two separate investigations conducted by the Examinations Department and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

This follows allegations that three questions from the first paper of the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination were leaked prior to the exam. The Education Ministry issued a special statement addressing the controversy, stating that a decision on the matter will be made once the investigations are concluded.

Parents have raised concerns, claiming that more than three questions were leaked and are calling for a fresh examination. The Examinations Commissioner General, Amith Jayasundara, indicated that if the investigations confirm the leak, the disputed questions would be excluded from the marking process.

The investigations are reportedly centered around a teacher from the Alawwa area who allegedly uploaded a model question paper containing questions similar to those in the exam onto social media.
