Anura Kumara Dissanayake Elected Sri Lanka’s New President; Sajith Premadasa Comes Second.

In a historic election, Anura Kumara Dissanayake of the left-wing National People’s Power (NPP) party has won Sri Lanka’s presidential race.

Anura Kumara Dissanayake – 5,740,179
Sajith Premadasa – 4,530,902


Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa finished second, while incumbent president Ranil Wickremesinghe lagged behind in third place.

The election required a second round of vote counting, as no candidate initially secured the necessary 50% majority.
