- President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has emphasized that, since neither he nor his administration has special ties or obligations to any party within the country’s development or business sectors, they are positioned to make decisions impartially and decisively for the sake of national economic recovery.
- President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced that the entire country will undergo digital transformation within the next three years under his administration. He highlighted that digitization holds the potential to elevate Sri Lanka’s global standing and confirmed that the government has already begun implementing related initiatives.
- The Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) has informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court that two suspects, who were arrested in relation to the investigations carried out according to the intelligence received regarding a plan to launch a terrorist attack targeting a tourist attraction in Sri Lanka, will be detained further for interrogations.
- The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) rejected as ‘completely baseless’ the recent reports claiming that the CBSL has printed currency notes to the value of Rs. 100 billion through Sri Lanka’s open market operations. Issuing a clarification in this regard, the CBSL explained that providing liquidity through open market operations is among the general affairs carried out by the Central Bank.
- The All Share Price Index (ASPI) of the Colombo Stock Exchange has gained 135.54 points yesterday. Accordingly, the ASPI had closed at 12,745.60 points today, its highest value since February 03, 2022.
- The 6th meeting of the India-Sri Lanka Joint Working Group (JWG) on Fisheries was held in Colombo. The meeting was participated by an Indian delegation which was led by Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, Secretary of the Indian Department of Fisheries, Government of India and senior officials from the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying; Ministry of External Affairs; Government of Tamil Nadu; Navy; Coast Guard; Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute and High Commission of India in Colombo.
- Former Minister Kanchana Wijesekera alleges that the recent statement made by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya on the former government’s proposal related to state sector salaries was false and misleading. Kanchana Wijesekera said that the previous government of Ranil Wickremesinghe took all the necessary steps per the procedures to approve the salary increments for state sector employees from January 2025.
- The Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SL CERT) today issued an alert to the public about the surge in fake messages being disseminated via social media and communication platforms, particularly WhatsApp. These deceptive messages are designed to fraudulently obtain personal and financial information by impersonating credible institutions, including banks, commercial organizations, and international bodies, according to the SL CERT.
- Laugfs Gas PLC has assured that the shortage of its gas cylinders in the market will be resolved in the next two days. Chairman of Laugfs Gas PLC, W.K.H. Wegapitiya said that a shortage has arisen due to issues faced in the distribution of gas cylinders.
- Sri Lanka could still make a push for a World Test Championship final berth with three more wins from their remaining four Tests. Sri Lanka recorded back to back test wins over New Zealand at Galle before they scored a fighting win over England in the third test at Oval and these achievements may help to qualify for the world test championship final.
