Bus fares will have to be increased by Wednesday: Minister Dilum Amunugama

Date:

The bus fares will have to be increased by Wednesday (29), said State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama, speaking to a ceremony held in Ankumbura, Kandy yesterday (26).

“We may have to go for a revision of the bus fares next week. We are hoping to go for a minimum rise. We have to go for such a revision because there is a drop in the prices of fuel and there is a law on the number of seats available for passengers due to Covid. These, we are not allowed to remove.

When the law is lifted, we may have to revise the fare by a small amount by Wednesday, on the condition that it too will be removed. We are not doing these willingly,” he said.
