Railway strike action by station masters intensified – fuel, cement transportation halted

Date:

The strike action launched by Railway station masters based on a number of demands has reportedly been intensified. Accordingly, the station masters have decided to drop themselves out from the transportation of fuel, cement and wheat flour.

According to Sumedha Somarathna, Chairman of the Railway Station Masters Association, the discussion held with the General Manager of Railway today (27) met a dead-end.

Accordingly, the strike action will be intensified, he added.

The railway strike action was commenced on December 21, leading to a suspension of the issuance of train tickets and acceptance of parcels for passengers. The action incurs a daily loss of Rs. 09 million to the Railway Department.

The loss by observation will further be exacerbated by the suspension of the transportation of fuel, cement and wheat flour.
