President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa says that all Ministers representing the Cabinet should be present regarding decisions taken collectively in the Cabinet. The President says it would be more appropriate to resign from the Cabinet and criticize the decisions taken by the Cabinet if it is not possible to stand up for the protection of the collective.
He has stated this in response to a question raised by a journalist during a discussion with the heads of media institutions.
However, the President has stated that he will not take any action to remove ministers who hold different views without protecting their collective responsibilities.
Cabinet Ministers Wimal Weerawansa, Udaya Gammanpila and Vasudeva Nanayakkara made various statements criticizing the Cabinet’s decision to enter into an agreement with an American company regarding the Yugadanavi power plant.
In addition, various ministers have recently criticized certain decisions taken by the Cabinet.
