UNP Leader urges to reveal alternatives if IMF approach not possible (VIDEO)

Date:

The country is in dire straits amid the prevailing dollar deficit, warned Leader of the United National Party (UNP) MP Ranil Wickremesinghe, making a special statement today (28).

Businesses in particular are collapsing, jobs are being lost, the middle class is deteriorating and farmers are stranded, he pointed out, urging the government that immediate solutions should be sought.

Despite the pandemic situation, many countries around the world have demonstrated economic progress during 2020 – 2021, the UNP Leader went on, adding that the government, therefore, should immediately be seeking the assistance of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Should the government decide not to, alternate options must be revealed, Wickremesinghe added.

The people are angry and are suffering from a food scarcity, he reminded.
