China’s Seawin Biotech Fertilizer Company has decided to request the Sri Lankan government to impose sanctions on Sri Lanka, media reports say. The company has already lodged a complaint with the Chinese government regarding the actions of the Sri Lankan authorities.
Following the popularization of organic farming, the Sri Lankan government requested a stock of organic fertilizer from Seawin Biotech in China but was later rejected. The reason for this was the discovery of harmful microorganisms in the fertilizer stock. However, the ship carrying the fertilizer had already approached Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan authorities have agreed to pay more than US $ 6 million to the company for the rejected fertilizer, but the company says the total value of the fertilizer must be paid. The company has also decided to comply with international law to obtain the money.
In addition, Seawin Biotech says it will lodge complaints with international organizations.
If China imposes sanctions on Sri Lanka at the request of the company, it will be a serious problem for Sri Lanka.
