Rajiv Gandhi killers cannot be released: Indian government

The central government of India, submitting an affidavit, has stated that the killers of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi cannot be released.

The central government submitted the aforementioned affidavit following an inquiry of the Supreme Court with regard to Tamil Nadu state government’s decision to release seven convicts of Rajiv Gandhi’s murder case, who have been sentenced to life in prison.

The Centre had stated that releasing the killers of Rajiv Gandhi will set a very dangerous precedent.

Former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on 21 May 1991 by a suicide bomber from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
