If not the national flag, is it the tiger flag? – Ranil

Prime Minister responding to the recent statements that the national flag should not be hoisted during the national independence celebrations questioned “if not the national flag which flag should be hoisted? Is that the Tiger flag?

“The LTTE did not allow hoisting the national flag. I am astonished the so called Singhalese leaders following Pirabakaran’s footstep and telling not to hoist the national flag. If so, which flag to hoist? Is it the Tiger flag?” the Prime minister asserted.

Prime Minister questioned this during a media communiqué held following the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the former army commander field marshal Sarath Fonseka’s Democratic Party and the United National Party.

Following Prabakaran
Prime Minister said anybody can personally decide to join the national independence ceremony but nobody can abstain from hoisting the national flag.

“D.S. Senanayake following the independence formed a committee by the leadership of Bandaranaike. Sir John Kotalawala, G.G. Ponnambalam, Sinlaha, Tamil and Muslim leaders all said this is our flag” Prime Minister emphasized.

“Somebody has told not to hoist the national flag. After Pirabakaran, who have said this?” The Prime Minister again questioned.
