We restructured a collapsed economy and enabled people to enjoy a super democracy - Ravi Karunanayake
According to reliable political sources, a change is expected of the Finance Minister, with the Cabinet reshuffle. This became a hot topic with a lot of discussions. The uncertain Cabinet reshuffle, in a way, depicts the dilapidated nature of the Sri Lankan politics.
In this back drop the Finance Ministry is at a decisive juncture. Even at the time power shifted from Rajapaksa regime to Ranil-Maithri joint regime, the Finance Ministry was at a critical juncture. From the very inception the Ranil-Maithri Government insisted that the previous regime handed over an empty treasury. Even after two years there is endless chaos. Reaching just two years the Government is heading for a Cabinet reshuffle. The Finance Minister top the list in Cabinet reshuffle. Yet, in these two years the Minister reiterated that the Government managed to restructure the collapsed economy of the country.
Yet, the Finance Ministry is pointed as the main reason behind. Therefore what has really happened? What can be anticipated? Lanka News Web decided to direct these questions to the Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake.
Minister Karunanayake emphasized that the Government has adhered to its obligations as pledged on January 08, 2015 and has strengthened the economy that was shattered.
Karunanayke continue to face allegations for putting the country in a worse debt trap, despite he reiterated that the economy is developed. The opposition parties continued to emphasize that Rani Karunanayke’s involvement is evident in shaping the economy according to the agenda of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Yet the Minister stressed that there was immense support from the international community to uplift the Sri Lankan economy to a better standard.
He points out that despite these baseless criticisms by some, none of them are aware of the real situation the economy was drenched in.
However, he added, that as of now the political dishonesty need to be eliminated before development.
Establishing a strong democracy is not a weakness of the Government, he added. One must understand the actual political motive behind those who continue to create a chaos. It is high time to reveal the double agents in the Government, he insisted.
