Health minister Rajitha Senaratne has questioned the withdrawal of four judges from a Supreme Court case involving former defences secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
Speaking at the anti-tobacco national day function at Waters’ Edge at Battaramulla yesterday (07), he said the withdrawal of just one judge could have been normal and accepted.
But, the withdrawal of as many as four gives rise to the question as to whether these judges are afraid of Gotabhaya, said Senaratne.
There is just one case in which fear of death made a judge to withdraw from a case in Cuba against a mafia leader.
Judges in Sri Lanka similarly fear Gotabhaya, he said.
The SC has issued an injunction against the arrest of the ex-defence secretary.
If judges too, behave like cowards in matters relating to Gotabhaya, future will be very unsecure, the minister warned.
