Fly Dubai yesterday (08) stopped its daily flights to Mattala Airport. It was the only airline to have operated daily flights to the airport, which it began since the airport began operations in 2013.
From 2015, the two SriLankan flights to the airport were suspended and Fly Dubai flights were restricted to four days a week.
Fly Dubai had more than 1,150 flights to the airport, earning it an income of around Rs. 100,000 daily.
In the past five years, the Mattala airport accommodated more than 175,000 passengers in more than 8,700 flights, serving also as an alternative to the Katunayake airport and as a refueling location.
