UNP MP Buddhika Pathirana will be sworn in by President Maithripala Sirisena as the deputy minister of Industries and Commerce tomorrow, Lankanewsweb reliably learns.
MP Pathirana despite winning the highest number of preferential votes from the Matara District at the last General Election, was until now denied a ministerial portfolio.
However Sagala Ratnayake who also contested from the Matara District and obtained a lesser number of votes than MP Pathirane was entrusted the Ministry of Law and Order.
MP Pathirane who is currently in Japan is to be flown in for the swearing in ceremony.
Sources within the Prime Minister's office speaking to Lankanewsweb on condition of anonymity, said that it was UNP Secretary and Minister for Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, a close friend of MP Pathirane, who had proposed six UNP MPs for ministerial portfolios.
It is also reliably learned that Minister Sagala Ratnayake is displeased with MP Pathirane's latest appointment.
