" We would be happy to see Gota contest " – Harin Fernando

UNP Spokesperson Harin Fernando speaking at a news conference at the UNP Party Head Quarters at Sirikotha yesterday said that the UNP would be the happiest if former Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa contested the next Presidential Election in 2020.

The vociferous UNP spokesman Fernando further stated that the Yahapalana government has given the public the opportunity to freely express any opinion.

However certain political parties consider the present government as gutless and naive. Some media institutions also say whatever they want to, even going on to criticize President Maithripala Sirisena and the current government, he went on to say.

“Some heads of media institutions create news pertaining to Arjun Aloysius. This is a game created to fool the innocent citizens of this country. They protect the big thieves, and then expose only a few people who accepted money from Aloysius for elections. A perfect example is the latest story where a Sri Lanka Army Colonel is aired being mobbed affectionately by rehabilitated, former LTTE members in Kilinochchi. So, if that is the case, has not reconciliation worked in the country under the present government? Gotabaya led programs are completely focused on militarization. All those who think the country should go back to the former Rajapaksa era can freely follow Gotabaya and bury democracy forever. Well, we would like it if he comes forward as the next Presidential candidate. It would definitely be an easy win for us.There is a lot that could be said now, but we will save it all for a later day ” concluded the UNP Spokesman Fernando.
