Fuel prices increased

The prices of petrol and diesel have been increased with effect from midnight yesterday (10).

The cabinet has extensively discussed the price formula introduced by the Ministry of Finance. The price of a liter of 92 octane petrol and 95 octane petrol was increased to Rs. 145 and Rs. 155 respectively. Moreover, the price of a liter of diesel was increased to Rs. 118 whilst the price of super diesel was increased to Rs. 129.

Although the fuel prices were increased on 5th July according to the price formula of the Ministry of Finance, the government rowed back on the decision the following day.

Cabinet Spokesperson Rajitha Senarathna said that the fuel prices will be amended monthly, based on the price of crude oil in the world market. The government will reconsider fuel prices on 10th August again.
