Minister of National Integration, Reconciliation and Official Languages Mano Ganeshan says that the government has failed to provide houses for people in the North and East.
Although the government decided to build 100,000 houses in the North and East 3 years ago, the government has failed to build a single house, the Minister added. He stressed that the Government of India has built 45,000 houses whilst the military has built many more houses.
The Minister said that the government assigned Minister Swaminadan with the task of building 50,000 houses, but so far he has not at least laid a foundation stone. Although the government promised to allow his ministry to build another 50,000 houses, the final decision has not been taken by the Prime Minister’s office, he added.
Moreover, although Tamil and Sinhala language classes are conducted for parliamentarians, not a single person attends the classes, the Minister emphasized.
He went on to mention that he will make it mandatory for parliamentarians to learn all three national languages, if he had the power to do so.
He further stated that although he disagrees with the statement made by former State Minister Vijayakala Maheshwaran, those who criticize her statement have failed to fulfill the hopes of the people in the North and East.
