President Maithripala Sirisena has rejected two cabinet papers at the cabinet meeting yesterday (7).
It has been reported that the president turned down the two proposals with no consideration whatsoever.
One of the proposals had been submitted by Minister Malik Samarawickrama seeking permission to acquire private lawyers’ assistance at the government’s expense for lawsuits filed at the Supreme Court against ministers.
The President had rejected Malik Samarawickrama's proposal emphasizing since government lawyers will appear on behalf of ministers in such instances, hiring private lawyers will not be necessary.
The other proposal had been submitted seeking special facilities for monitoring MPs who have been appointed to monitor Gamperaliya program, including a staff of seven, an official vehicle and a telephone allowance. The president has turned down this proposal too.
