Sri Lankan government’s commitment towards serving justice to the disappeared and the establishment of the Office of Missing Persons have been discussed at the 39th session of the Human Rights Council.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet stated that the Sri Lankan government deserves to be praised.
The 39th session of the Human Rights Council was commenced yesterday (10) in Geneva and in Mrs. Bachelet’s opening speech, she admired Sri Lanka. She stated that providing answers to the families of the disappeared should be done immediately.
Meanwhile, the High Commissioner expressed her opinions about repeating religious and racist conflicts and the President’s proposal to implement the death penalty. The session will be concluded on 28 September.
It is further reported that two reports on Sri Lanka will be presented during the 39th session of the UN Human Rights Council.
