Minister of Telecommunication, Digital Infrastructure and Foreign Employment Harin Fernando said that a cabinet sub-committee has been appointed to look into possible changes to the family background report of foreign labors.
The Minister said that this decision was taken to prevent mistakes that may happen when preparing the family background report and to prevent illegal foreign employment.
The Minister made this statement while speaking to media after an inspection tour at the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau.
Women under 45 years of age are required to submit a family background report certified by the Grama Niladhari, Development Officers and Divisional Secretary.
The Minister pointed out that even through this process, many people go abroad illegally without adhering to proper protocols.
