Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa does not deny media reports that he secretly met with President Maithripala Sirisena to take a decision regarding the future of politics.
Former President, speaking to media yesterday (9) after a discussion held at the house of SLPP Chairman Prof. G.L. Peiris, stated that discussions have been held with President Maithripala Sirisena several times.
Challenging the government is the duty of the opposition and therefore extended discussions were held, he added.
Speaking to media, Basil Rajapaksa said that the discussion focused on SLPP’s future activities and changing the government. He refused to reveal how the government will be changed.
Meanwhile, Namal Rajapaksa said that he will leave SLFP and obtain the membership of SLPP. A party leader’s meeting will be held tomorrow, he added.
When journalists asked why the Group of 15 were not invited to the meeting, Namal Rajapaksa said, “No, we haven’t excluded anyone. The discussion was organized for those who work with SLPP. Therefore, those who have obtained SLPP membership or are working like members took part in the discussion. The Group of 16 still work as a fraction of SLFP, not as members of SLPP.”
