The Office of Reparations Bill has been passed with amendments in the parliament.
The bill was taken for debate on 10 October (Wednesday) and received 59 votes in favor and 43 votes against it.
Deputy Speaker Ananda Kumarasiri announced that the bill was passed with amendments after third reading.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe presenting the proposal on the bill said that that the bill was submitted for the rights of all citizens.
“Not only the north, disappearances have been reported from the south too. We have to provide assistance to all relevant parties. This office will make and implement policies, and will report on the progress of those policies. The director board consists of four members,” he added.
