Steps to Lengthen Elephant Fence Up to 7000 kilometres

Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe says that steps have been taken in lengthening the electric fence built in recovery of Human-Elephant conflict up to 7000 kilometres.

Accordingly, the electric fence, which had been built for 4300 kilometres, will be further lengthened up to 7000 kilometres.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe made these comment in response to a question raised at the Parliament in regard to the Human-Elephant conflict by parliamentarian Roshan Ranasinghe.

The Prime Minister has further stated that during the recent period, the Human-Elephant conflict has killed over 80 human lives and 280 wild elephants.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe points out that a dropping centre for rehabilitating oppressing elephants is located in the Horovpathana area, and that steps will be taken in building another in Lunugamwehera area.

Also, the number of fireworks built for elephants has been increased from 50%.

In addition, the Prime Minister points out that 1675 civil defence personnel have been attached to the security.
