Mrs. Sandya Ekneligoda said that there are Army personnel who are capable of covering up reports related to the investigations held by the Army in regard to the abduction of Journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda.
She stated yesterday (10), addressing the media, after visiting the Chief Thero of the Malwathu Maha Vihara Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thero, that she made many requests from the Government to look into her husband’s disappearance, and that as a result the investigations are being carried out.
She said that although many investigations were carried out to find about the disappearance of Prageeth Ekneligoda, none of the reports regarding the case was received to her.
“I came to inform the Chief Thero of Malwathu Parshawa today about the religious passive resistance campaign I’m about to begin.
My husband was kidnapped and disappeared by the Rajapakshe regime. There’s no doubt to that. But the investigations carried out by the Army seem to have been squeezed by personnel with the power of Army. That’s why none of the reports regarding the investigation is released. Even when the President defends the Army, releasing such report would be dubious.
I tried to make several statements to inform the President about the injustice happened to me, but I was not given any opportunity. I have had made many requests.
I even made inquiries from the OMP. But that’s just an office. They don’t give any solutions.
It’s not something I’ve done caused to have the General Secretary of Bodubala Sena imprisoned. The thero is on bail regarding my case. But they are imprisoned for insulting the Courts”, further said by Mrs. Sandya Ekneligoda.
Afterwards, she engaged in a passive resistance campaign near the premises of Kandy Temple of Tooth Relic for two hours. She was initially told by the Police not to conduct the passive resistance campaign in front of the Palace, however later she and those who came with her began their passive resistance campaign at the main road near the Palace for two hours.
Sandya Ekneligoda, who made a statement there, said that her observation will be continued for sixty days covering the main religious temples, and that later she would come to visit the Kali Meniyo.
