Inspector of Police Nishantha Silva of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) says that if his father is introduced as a Tamil person, he would be proud of it.
He said this responding to a statement made by Sri Lanka Podujana Permuna (SLPP) member, retired Major Ajith Prasanna questioning his father’s ethnicity.
“My father, my grandfather and everyone in my ancestry were people who lived in and served this country. I am proud of all of them,” he added.
He went on to say that he respects a person’s humanity, not ethnicity. He further said that when he’s performing his duties, he considers everyone is human, and one’s party, color or ethnicity does not matter.
He added: “According to my birth certificate, my ethnicity is Sinhalese. But before all of that, I belong to the human race. Before being labeled as Sinhalese, Tamil or Muslim, we first have to be human.”
He emphasized that he always acts according to his conscience and the law, and he will continue to do so.
He went on to state that he is not surprised that certain people are annoyed and have started hating him for his actions.
