Founder of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Basil Rajapaksa says SLPP members will under no circumstance support a non-SLPP presidential candidate. No person has the right to force the SLPP to do so, he added.
He made this statement while speaking at a meeting held with SLPP members of local administrative bodies yesterday (11). District level meetings were held since 5th February between Basil Rajapaksa and SLPP members of local administrative bodies.
Attendees of the meeting said politicians express various opinions about the forthcoming presidential election, including about the SLPP presidential candidate. SLPP will not support a non-SLPP presidential candidate, they added.
Addressing the meeting, Basil Rajapaksa said that the SLPP, as a political party that gives priority to village level party members, will not support a person disliked by its members.
He went on to emphasize that the next president will be a SLPP member.
Gampaha district leader Prasanna Ranatunga, members of parliament and provincial council members also participated in the meeting.
