MP Dilan Perera says that the government had no plans to defeat president’s expenditure head.
“Prime Minister lied,” he said, adding that the Prime Minister used UNP backbenchers to do that.
The Prime Minister did this in retaliation for the speech made by the President about the former’s character in the presence of Maithri Wickremesinghe, when Ranil Wickremesinghe was re-appointed as Prime Minister, he alleged.
There was no real plan, at all, to defeat president’s expenditure head, he noted.
Certain members of the SLFP also were fooled by prime minister’s plot, and they were compelled to refrain from voting at the second reading of the budget, he added.
“We, as a party, should ensure that we are not fooled again,” he emphasized.
However four SLFP MPs, Lakshman Perera, Sriyani Wijewickrama, Nishantha Muthuhettigama and I voted against the budget.
Addressing a media conference held on 14th March in Colombo, he made this statement.
