The National Action Plan for Elimination of Bribery and Corruption 2019-2023 is scheduled to be launched on 18th March. In October 2017, the government instructed the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABC) to develop an action plan with the aim of eliminating bribery and corruption. Throughout the last year, CIABC has been obtaining ideas of the people through public meetings and seminars to develop this plan.
So far, 50 intellectual discussions have been held, and 4 of them were held in Parliament. President Maithripala Sirisena presented the action plan to the Cabinet on 6th February, and obtained Cabinet approval.
Speaking to Lanka News Web about the national action plan, CIABC Director General Presidents Council Sarath Jayamanna stated that the action plan has identified four major strategies to eradicate bribery and corruption in Sri Lanka; they are, prevention, developing good attitudes, investigation and introducing new laws and policies.
He further said that 4 new books written on crucial factors in eradicating bribery and corruption will also be launched with the national action plan.
Creating a generation rich in good values, creating a transparent state and private sector and creating an efficient administration of justice that delivers justice to everyone alike, are the main objectives of this endeavor, he emphasized.
