The Consumer Affairs Authority has permitted milk companies to increase price of imported milk powder from an amount of Rs. 60 per kilogram. The decision will apparently make effect on the price of a kilogram of imported milk powder from Rs. 860 to Rs. 920.
Permissions have also been granted to increase price of a 400 grams milk powder packet from Rs. 25, concluding a price Rs. 370 which previously was Rs. 345.
Meanwhile, shop keepers have tended to hide milk powder stocks amid the news, causing a mass shortage of milk powder in the market.
Cabinet approval was also granted recently to introduce a price formula in regulating the price of imported milk.
