Sri Lanka’s Sabaragamuwa University is now gearing up to provide world class medical education for students soon with the completion of faculty of medicine project with the assistance of Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) has agreed to provide a concessional loan of SAR 187.5 Million in this regard.
Delegation headed by Secretary, Ministry of Finance DR RHS Samaratunga has visited Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 6th to 9th April 2019 for the loan negotiation of the construction of faculty of medicine project of the Sabaragamuwa University in Ratnapura with Saudi Fund for Development (SFD).
Project is launched with the aim of constructing the essentially needed infrastructure facilities and to provide the students with the state of the art teaching and learning facilities (laboratory and other equipment), Finance Ministry sources revealed.
Further, a new Faculty of Medicine creates more opportunities for the Advanced Level qualified students (in Bio-Science stream) to obtain opportunity to follow the MBBS degree Program and also contribute to the government policy of enhancing the health care system in Sri Lanka.
Since there is a continued close collaboration and very cordial partnership between two countries, SFD has agreed to provide more financial assistance to enhance the economic development of Sri Lanka by implementing development projects for the benefit of the people of Sri Lanka.
Delegates of Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) mission visited Sri Lanka during 27th February to 1st March 2019 to review the progress of SFD funded projects.
During the mission, SFD officials had project review discussions on deveral ongoing SFD funded projects including Epilepsy Hospital and Health Centers Project, Kalu Ganga Development Project, Road Network Development Project, Badulla – Chenkaladi Road Improvement Project, Left Bank Development Project in Kalu Ganga and Wayamba University Township Development Project.
