An explosion has reportedly taken place between 10 pm and 11 pm on the night of April 16 in Palamunai, Kaththankudi, causing a huge sound.

As the sound was more intense than the sound of thunder, some Muslim residents of the area had informed the police of the incident. However, necessary actions had not been taken with this regard.

However, after high-ranking police officers were informed of the explosion, investigations were handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

A team of police officers of the CID revealed that a Scooty-Pep motorcycle had exploded. However, the explosion caused damage to buildings and properties in the surrounding area, and CID officers suspect that it may be a test carried out using steel balls and explosives.

CID opines that this explosion may have been carried out by a group of Muslim extremists. It has been revealed that there are Muslim nationals in the country who are connected with international Muslim extremist groups. Majority of them are active in Eastern areas of the island where the majority of residents are Muslim.

According to the CID, these extremist groups may be responsible for this explosion also, and culprits will be discovered in future. No nationalist or extremist group will be allowed to start another war in the country which has already faced a 30-year war, CID officers added.

It is reported that the location of the explosion belongs to a Colombo-based Muslim businessman and he had purchased the land from Muslim politician A.L.M. Hisbullah.
