Student activists in Jaffna University released on bail

Students of the Jaffna University, who were arrested under emergency laws for being in possession of photographs of former LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran and theoretician Anton Balasingham, have been released on bail by the Jaffna Magistrate Court today (16).
 
Accordingly, the student activists, including the president of the Jaffna University Students' Union, its secretary and a medical faculty student, have been granted bail by Magistrate Peter Paul today. 
 
These students were arrested during a search operation conducted by the security forces over possession of photographs of the LTTE leaders. They have been released on personal bails of 100,000 rupees each and have been ordered to appear before the Kopai Police every Sunday. 
 
Demanding the release of the students, a protest was also launched by the students of the Jaffna University and civil groups yesterday (15).
