We will discuss and implement CEDAW resolutions –Imelda Sukumar

Women’s Collective for CEDAW shadow report preparation was held the International Women’s Day Celebration-2017 yesterday at The Cultural Centre in Vavuniya

Addressing over 300 Sinhalese, Muslim and Tamil women’s activists who participated for women’s day celebrations Secretary of State Ministry of Women Affais Imenlda Sukuma said that they will discuss about the CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women) resolution with the Women Affairs Minsters and take necessary action to implement them.

“I was listening to the painful stories shared by young women today. Their faces show that their day to day struggles. We will try our best to help them to find solution for their problems.”

She added, “We will study the CEDAW report and try our best to address the problems which were faced by women.”

“Eliminate all the discriminations against women” and “Enact CEDAW convention in Sri Lanka” were the major demands of the Women’s Collective for CEDAW shadow report preparation.

Representatives from three district women activists shared their members problems at the seminar.

TNA Lawmaker Charles Nirmalan pointed out current situations of government programs on women headed families and displaced people.

“The government should take necessary action for address women’s problems. They should introduce new rules and regulations fro the benefits of women in the country. As well as government should increase allocations of fund for settle women’s problems,” said Nirmalan

Young girls and women were performed their dancing talents at the event.

Herman Kumara, convener of NaFSO pointed out the importance of women’s contribution for implement CEDAW resolutions in the country.

Sathish Kaushalya was honored at women’s day celebration for the contribution for her tireless contribution and leadership for land grabbing issue in Keppavilaw in the Northern Province
