He said steps would be taken to minimize problems of pharmacy owners following the reduction in the prices of 48 essential medicines. Noting that their profits have declined, he urged them to sell State Pharmaceutical Corporation produced medicines as a solution. He said he has instructed the SPC chairman to look into the possibility of granting them an 18 per cent profit margin.
Senaratne also said the prices of stents too, would be reduced, and private hospitals regulated.
On the occasion, the association gave him an award in recognition of his measure to benefit the public by reducing the prices of 48 medicines.
