Anoja Weerasinghe to help promote mental health

Renowned actress Anoja Weerasinghe has joined the health ministry in promoting mental health services. Mental health promotion measures came under discussion at a recent meeting at the ministry chaired by minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.

It was decided there to start Yoga exercise training at district level through trainers in the three armed forces as part of the measures. The minister said the assistance of the Indian high commission should be sought for the purpose. The training is intended for hospital staffs, schoolchildren, teachers and parents.

Actress Weerasinghe said on the occasion that mental health promotion was getting attention only under the present government and the minister.

The ministry’s directress (mental health) Chitramali de Silva and Dr. Kapila Ranasinghe of the National Mental Health Institute at Angoda were among the other participants.
