Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe addressing the protesting campaign, Yukthiye Janahanda (The People’s Voice for Justice), organized by the United National Party held in Colombo yesterday (30) said that the Temple Trees as the symbol of democracy will be protected.

“We walked forward in protecting the rights of the Parliament. In a moment nobody even imagined, President Maithreepala Sirisena has broken the mandate and is attempting to grab the power of Executive Presidency. We are standing against it. Protect the democracy that people are committed to. We felt as if by Monday we would all become prisoners. Until people are organized, the Temple Trees was made as the symbol of democracy.

We demand to reconvene the Parliament. They prorogued instead. We will not allow it. We will not allow them to swipe the Election and the Parliament. The symbol began from the Temple Trees has now been widespread across the country”, further added by Mr. Wickramasinghe.

Mr. Sajith Premadasa, Deputy Leader of the United National Party, addressing the rally, said that they are ready to sacrifice their own life in the name of democracy.

“My father in May first, 1993, sacrificed his life for the labour community. I hereby stand with intention to accept death. We are ready to get bombed, fired. We are ready to sacrifice our lives in the name of democracy. Every drop of my blood will be donated for my people. In every inch of my veins is fragrance of the sweat of my people. No matter if I am being ripped apart into tiny bits, in the name of democracy I will be standing”, further said by Mr. Sajith Rajapakshe.

Addressing the rally, former Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka said that they will be fighting against the Rajapakshes led by Mahinda Rajapakshe, irrespective for how long.

“we are ready to fight against the Rajapakshes even for 10 – 15 years. We will be bringing him once again into pleading mad at behind window bars. One of them will be pleading behind the windows of Polonnaruwa, while the other at Madamulana”, further said by Mr. Fonseka.

“President cleared the Government. We will send the President home. We will send the Prime Minister home. By tomorrow, we will be making your Government”, Minister Rajitha Senaratne in addressing the rally commented.
