Members of Viyathmaga are disappointed about the ignoble acts of the group. Viyathmaga was originally formed to make Gotabhaya Rajapaksa the president.
Various statements made by the group have led to this situation. For example, once Kamal Gunaratne stated that the parliamentarians who support the 20th amendment to the constitution must be shot and killed.
Although they have demonstrated great skills during the war, they do not have the discipline or intelligence required to rule a country. Attitudes of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and retired military officials around him are similar to those of persons who seek a military junta or a dictatorship. They are asking for the power to solve issues by guns.
Because of this, Gotabhaya's clique is opposed by both the Joint Opposition and majority of Pohottuwa. MPs such as Vasudewa Nanayakkara and Kumara Welgama have expressed strong opposition and they are of the opinion that a military rule must not be allowed under no circumstance. Vasudewa Nanaykkara says that although Gotabhaya can surely be a dictatorial military leader, he cannot be a democratic leader. Attending a television programme, Kumara Welgama recently stated that the person who becomes the President must have served at least as a councilor in a municipal council. He said that he is prepared to resign from the party and fight against dictatorship and will take a stance for a democratic administration.
Meanwhile, a new group named 'Harimaga' has been formed to cover up the ignoble deeds of Viyathmaga. Kamal Gunaratne, who stated that those who support the 20th amendment to the constitution must be shot and killed publicly, has been appointed as the leader of Harimaga. Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Harimaga, Kamal Gunaratne has stated that the country needs a leader who has a decent vision and can take upright decisions. He went on to mention that Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is the only suitable candidate.
According to Kamal Gunaratne, taking upright decisions may mean shooting any person the rulers feel are wrong. Taking into account the murders, assaults, abductions, threatenings, burning down homes and companies of adversaries and also racist conflicts supported by Gotabhaya, it is apparent what would happen if Gotabhaya comes to power.
When we look at the statements of Kamal Gunaratne and the leaders of Viyathmaga, Eliya and Harimaga, it is obvious that the statement made by Asgiriye Anu Nahimi regarding a Hitler rule is not a random statement.
