Country head of China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) Ludong Wang, who is involved in several corrupt transactions, has fled the country. CMEC is the firm that built the Norochcholai coal power plant.
On 18 July we reported that investigations have revealed that Ludong Wang and vice-chairman of CMEC Lee have paid USD 80 million to three powerful figures of the government to hide weak points of the construction of Norochchoali coal power plant.
Leaving the country when there is an active investigation into these corrupt transactions is a serious problem. It shows the carelessness of the Financial Crimes Investigations Division (FCID), Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Department of Immigration and Emigration.
The FCID and CID were to interrogate Ludong Wang with regard to CMEC’s corrupt transactions with the former government, and he had planned to flee the country before that. He has succeeded.
We further reported that Ludong Wang is paying large amounts of money to powerful politicians to influence the FCID in order to hinder the investigations.
It has been reported that the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka has assisted him to flee the country and had informed him not to return until problems are solved.
Meanwhile, as the corrupt transactions between China Harbor and the former government began to reveal, one of its heads Zhang Xiaoqiang Yaan had also fled the country.
After that, CMEC was afraid that corrupt transactions between CMEC and Rajapaksa administration may also reveal.
Meeting between Mahinda Rajapaksa and China Harbor head in Singapore
However, Zhang Xiaoqiang Yaan of China Harbor had met former president Mahinda Rajapaksa in Singapore.
Mahinda Rajapaksa had told Zhang Xiaoqiang Yaan not to be afraid and Rajapaksa will regain power in a few months. He had further asked Zhang Xiaoqiang Yaan to inform CMEC the same message.
