President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed two state media coordinators yesterday (13).
Ravin Wickramaratne has been appointed as the coordinator for the Rupavahini Corporation, while Buddhini Ramanayake has been appointed as the coordinator for the Independent Television Network.
The President had summoned the heads of all state media institutions yesterday morning. Government News Director Sudharshana Gunawardena, Lake House Chairman Krishantha Cooray, Rupavahini Corporation Chairman Inoka Sathyangani Keerthinanda, Independent Television Network Chairman Thilaka Jayasundera and Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation Chairman Siddhi Mohammed Farook participated in the meeting.
The President had expressed his disappointment of state media’s activities. The President has said that development projects implemented under his supervision do not receive adequate media coverage from state media institutions.
The President has made these appointments to coordinate projects and programmes implemented under the President and the Presidential Secretariat
Meanwhile, Director General of Rupavahini Corporation Thusitha Mellawathanthri has handed over his resignation letter to subject ministers Mangala Samaraweera. He had stated health reasons as his reason for the resignation. It has been approved by the Minister, and Saranga Wijeratne has been appointed as the Acting Director General.
