The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested army intelligence officer Lieutenant Colonel Erantha Peiris in connection with the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda.

Although no evidence had been found until now to prove Erantha Peiris’ involvement in the above incident, certain information about him has been revealed through telephone conversations between Army intelligence officers. Accordingly, it has been revealed that Lieutenant Colonel Erantha Peiris had abducted Prageeth Ekneligoda.

Lieutenant Colonel Erantha Peiris was a close ally of Army intelligence officer Lieutenant Colonel Shammi Arjuna Kumararathna, who was previously arrested over the abduction and disappearance of Ekneligoda.

Lieutenant Colonel Shammi Arjuna Kumararathna, Lieutenant Colonel Prabodha Siriwardena and Staff Sergeants Priyantha Kumara, Kanishka Gunaratne, Priyantha Dilanjaya, Chaminda Kumara and Ravindra Rupasinghe have been accused of the above incident and are out on bail. Prageeth Ekneligoda was abducted and disappeared near Colombo on 24 January 2010. The Army has been accused of not supporting the court case at the Homagama Magistrate’s Court.

However, the CID has informed the court that evidence that proves Army officers' involvement in the disappearance of Prageeth Ekneligoda have been found.
