In the evening the day before yesterday (26), former President Mahinda Rajapakshe swore before President Maithreepala Sirisena as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka bewildering the whole citizens. Reports say that some of the members of the Joint Opposition Party, who were at the Presidential Secretariat at the moment, were not aware such event was going to take place until appointment.
The President’s attachment to Mr. Mahinda Rajapakshe abandoning the UNP led by Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe, who made huge contribution in making him President in the first place, has mystified the UNP, and they say this is an act of betraying the mandate of January 08, 2015.
Former Head of Terrorist Investigations Division Nalaka Silva was arrested alleging to have conspired against President Maithreepala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakshe for assassination on evening of the past 25. He was arrested when he arrived at the Criminal Investigations Department, and after brining before the Courts, he was remanded till November 07.
A telephone conversation between the remanded Nalaka Silva and President Maithreepala Sirisena was taken place, and reportedly it took for over 30 minutes. The President became severely anxious after the phone conversation, concluding that Nalaka Silva must have discussed something top secret with the President.
Sources closer to the President inform that this phone conversation turned out to be a nearest reason for the sudden power changeover.
The President made statements subtly hinting over time that the Government has a share to the plot of assassinating him, and he attached back to his old leader abandoning Ranil and the UNP by considering that for a reason too. In other words, what the President has done was that he replaced the party threatening to his existence with a party presumably more protective.
However, the President must have forgotten words spilled out of his mouth with his rival at the January, 2015 Presidential Election. Back then, he stated that if he lost the Election he could have been buried six feet underground. He stated that he stayed in hiding when the Presidential Election results were announced, and that he had no confidence about his life. Accordingly, with whom the President has enclosed is the same man who wanted to bury him six feet underground.
