Per request by Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe, Mr. Rajitha Senaratne and Mr. John Amarathunga have met President Maithreepala Sirisena on last Saturday (03) night.
The meeting was taken place in the Presidential Residence at Paget road.
The three have reportedly had a long discussion in relate to the decision the President made on the evening of last 26. Mr. Rajitha Senaratne and Mr. John Amarathunga asked from the President as for what reasons he came up with this decision.
The President has told them that he never believed he would come into such decision in 2015, emphasizing of the fact that there were a lot of shortcomings in the National Government. He has told his two fellowships that especially accounting to greedy behaviour of some of the ministers and avoiding his association in work, he had to make that decision.
He pointed out that significantly the Prime Minister’s behaviour was at his utter displeasure and disappointment, and on Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe’s role as the Prime Minister, he too had avoided him. The President has added that these were also the reasons that steered him during recent times to make statements criticizing the present Government.
As the trio continued conversations about the problems occurred in the National Government as such, sharing views about ruling the nation with democracy has also been taken place. Because the President friends with Since Mr. Rajitha Senaratne and Mr. John Amarathunga, they have very openly shared their views in relate to the political crisis currently emerged in the country. Accordingly, the three have come to understanding that giving special attention on the mandate received on January 8, 2015 is important, and that the politically unpleasantness of the people is a bad sign for all of them.
President refuses to visit Ranil Wickramasinghe
However, both Rajitha and John Amarathunga have pointed out that the sudden political decision made by the President has caused a severe crisis in the country and it has to be solved immediately. Accordingly, the two have requested from the President to meet Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe for discussion. However, reportedly the President has refused the request. He too has refused the request in which both have told him for the least to make a phone call to carry out a discussion for solving the issue.
The three have mutually agreed that it is difficult to move the Government forward in the face of such disagreements, that the situation has to be solved democratically.
A National Government again
Accordingly, Mr. Rajitha Senaratne and Mr. John Amarathunga have pointed out that the United People’s Freedom Alliance, consists of the United National Party and Sri Lanka Freedom Party, and the Joint Opposition have to collaborate in seeking for a solution to this political crisis. Political sources inform that given the current situation, the conversation to bring a National Government once again has already begun.
The first round of discussions has been successfully conducted and the second round will be held within the following couple of days.
The President too has emphasized the importance of solving the current political confusion, adding that they should be working without being blacklisted before the international and within the framework of democracy.
