15 Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members had met with Mahinda Rajapaksa today (28) to request him to intervene to solve the current political crisis. They had requested Mahinda Rajapaksa to resign from the post of Prime Minister to resolve the political crisis, since the President is in a difficult situation.
The SLFP group had told Mahinda Rajapaksa: “At this moment, the President is in a very difficult situation. To solve this issue, you have to step down. Otherwise this problem cannot be solved.”
In response, Mahinda Rajapaksa had stated that he does not want to resign.
“Why should I resign? People are not blaming me for what happened; they blame the President. I’m not resigning. Give me time until Dec. 7th. If the Supreme Court says what happened is unconstitutional, I still have one and a half years to obtain the majority’s support. I can show the majority. I’ll do so when the time comes. I shall not resign.”
Mahinda Rajapaksa had further told the SLFP group that Shiranthi Rajapaksa and his three sons would oppose his resignation due to the political crisis.
“I have nothing to do now. I don’t have to resign. Shiranthi and children also don’t like it. They had to face various issues recently. Now it’s their turn.”
A SLFP member had asked whether Ranil Wickramasinghe asked him not to resign from the post of Prime Minister.
With a smile, Mahinda Rajapaksa had stated: “Are you mad! Ranil is waiting to be reappointed as the Prime Minister. Why would he keep me here?”
