Dear AG, Dismiss Disna Warnakulasuriya from Weerawansa's case!

1 February 2019 09:15 am

The case against UPFA Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa for attempting to travel abroad accessing an informal passport was taken up today (31) at the Negombo Magistrate Court.

On accounts to the above allegations, Mr. Weerawansa was arrested on October 23, 2015, however was not formally set on a verdict or legal procedure yet to the date lingering for over three years and three months.

Senior State Counsel Disna Warnakulasuriya, who is leading the case in the Attorney General's Department, has reportedly become one of the main reasons for her being a friend to the Weerawansa family. She is a close friend to Mrs. Shashi Weerawansa and Mr. Wimal Weerawansa.

The case is called upon courts only twice every year, and is postponed on various occasions. This is interpreted to be a conspiracy, and could have been set on a verdict long ago if handed over to a different attorney, said by legal experts.

The Attorney General's Office too had been on an agenda to postpone the case by any means necessary.

Evidences against Mr. Wimal Weerawansa are too strong to be brought before courts for easily making verdict against his crimes, getting caught in red hand with two fake passports at Katunayake Airport, to which he falsified Head of Department of Immigration and Emigration, to name one. However, apparently, he is surrounded by his racist political ideology followed by those who are loyal to him, and therefore is not brought before justice.

Further inquiries revealed that Mr. Weerawansa has received passports five times and stated that three of them were lost. So, are we to realize that Mr. Weerawansa, whose brutal passion is against international conspiracies, is not of the capability to secure his passport three times a row?

Accusation for possessing false passports is not the only accusation that stands against the Weerawansa family. In addition to distributing government vehicles and homes to their relatives and and unlawful means of charging assets, there are allegations made against Mrs. Shashmi Weerawansa for preparing false passports and false birth certificates for her and her children.

Although we requested to dismiss Disna Warnakulasuriya from the case, she may decide to postpone the case influenced by some other party as well. Mr. Weerawansa, who in his words slammed at President Maithreepala Sirisena to 'get lost' once, apparently has become a good buddy of  the President.

However, there is no evidence to decipher grounds that the President is involved in the process. Mr. Weerawansa, who was arrested at the airport, is said to be released on the same day due to the intervention of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The real question is that whether both parties work together to stop law enforcement, having internal deals and projecting smoke screens to be a patriot deceiving the public.
