Investigations carried in connection to the brutal murders at Rathgama Boossa area allegedly involving policemen of the Special Investigations Unit of the Southern Province have revealed that the Senior Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Southern Province was aware of the crime.
Senior Deputy Inspector General Ravi Wijegunawardena has reportedly been aware of the abduction and murder of two businessmen by a group of people dressed in police uniforms, and the investigations have also revealed that one of the businessmen laid dead during physical assault, while the other was intentionally killed in order to hide evidence. Reports say that the incident was informed to Senior DIG Ravi Wijegunawardena immediately, to which instructions to dispose the bodies were given back.
However, reportedly no legal actions against Senior DIG Ravi Wijegunawardena have been taken by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) so far.
The Police Department steered in a similar course of action when the prime suspect of the controversial death of Vidya from Jaffna was set free by Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe.
