Parliament’s thugs evade CID for third time

Five MPs, who had been summoned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to record statements with regard to their unruly behavior on 14th, 15th and 16th November in Parliament damaging public properties and assaulting police officers, have reportedly failed to appear before the CID today as well.

The MPs including Prasanna Ranaweera and Johnston Fernando were informed to appear before the CID for the third time.

MP Prasanna Ranaweera had stated that he did not appear before the CID due to the presentation of the budget proposal for 2019 in Parliament. The budget proposal is presented by Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera in the afternoon, however, the MPs in question had been summoned to the CID in the morning.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has also granted approval to record statements from MPs in relation to the tense situation arose in Parliament.
