Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Head Senior DIG Ravi Seneviratne has assumed duties as the head of the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) yesterday (22).
The FCID is currently carrying out investigations into nearly 500 complaints regarding serious allegations of financial fraud; however, in the recent past, serious corruption and fraud had reportedly taken place during these investigations as well. Corruption among investigating officers and disappearing evidence from files sent to the Attorney General’s Department, were among these allegations.
Ravi Seneviratne has issued his first order to review these matters and take necessary actions to rectify them.
Although FCID officers had requested permission to celebrate this occasion and chant pirith, Ravi Seneviratne refused, and stated that he will assume duties without any celebration. FCID was not a new place to Ravi Seneviratne since he had served as the acting FCID head several times before, for short periods of time.
It is reported that those who saved themselves through deals with the FCID, have lost their sleep over this new appointment for they are aware of the fact that Ravi Seneviratne cannot be bought.
