Order for bail revoked for Noyarh attack suspects
The Attorney General’s Department today (07) filed an amended application against the granting of bail for the suspects in the assault on journalist Keith Noyarh. The application was submitted to Colombo high court judge Gihan Kulatunga.
The suspects in the abduction and torture of Noyarh were due to be produced for an identification parade on the 30th. However, Noyarh was not present at the Mt. Lavinia court to identify the suspects. As a result, the identification parade was dissolved and additional magistrate Lochana Abeywickrama ordered bail for the suspects. However, there was talk in the legal circles that the suspects cannot be given bail as charges had been filed against them under the firearms ordinance.
On the basis of the AG’s amended application, the high court judge revoked the bail order and sent the suspects into remand custody until May 07.
