Former Navy spokesman Commodore D.K.P. Dassanayake was arrested by the CID yesterday (12) over the abduction and enforced disappearance of 11 Tamil youths in 2008. He was taken into custody on an order by Colombo Fort magistrate Lanka Jayaratne at the Navy Hospital in Welisara.
After getting to know through the Attorney General’s Department that he was to be arrested, he got himself admitted to the hospital. CID officials went to the hospital and inquired from a doctor about his ailment. The doctor said, “He had no ailment. But, he says he gets back pains when he travels in the Dvora.” To the laughter of everyone present, CID officers told the doctor, “But, doctor. He is not taking the ride to the court on a Dvora.”
