“Field Marshall, I didn’t know about any of this. I got a call from the president telling me to take up duties of this ministry and I couldn’t refuse. You know about my situation and my illnesses. I am sorry.” Said the minister.
Sarath Fonseka, replying to the minister’s call said, “You go ahead with the duties of your ministry. I will help you as much as I can.”
The next call Sarath Fonseka got was from the Prime Minister, “I don’t know about any of this. This is something which the president had done to his own liking”, said Ranil Wickramasinghe to save himself.
However, it was revealed that the coordination for this event was done by the Parliamentary secretary to the President, Miyuru Bhashitha Liyanage. Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara is a close friend of Mr. Liyanage and the president’s intent was to control the ministry of law and order to his own liking using this connection.
Fonseka Calls a Media Meeting
Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka will hold a meeting with the media personnel on the 14th of March. Reports say that Fonseka is ready to answer all the questions brought forward even if it forces him to step down from the government.
Gotabhaya approved Fonsekas appointment
The former secretary of defense Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had given his consent and had stated that Fonseka is the ideal man for the ministry of Law and Order. “When I appointed Fonseka as the army commander, Shantha Kottegoda had one and half years more. I must speak the truth even if I was sentenced to prison. Sarath Fonseka is a real hero” said Gotabhaya Rajapaksa who also pointed out that there are no permanent friends or rivals in politics
Furthermore, Gotabaya Rajapaksa stated that the country needs to be saved in any and every way possible from creating another black mark.
